Park City is a Sister City to Courchevel, France. This linkage was established in 1984 to delvelop relationships between our communities. These exchanges enhance many areas of our communities, including business, culture, arts and education. French representatives from Courchevel, the largest ski area in the world, felt that the Park City area ski resorts were very similar to Courchevel, with potential of identical stature. The Park City Sister City Association (PCSCA) was established to enhance and support this Sister City relationship.
The PCSCA is a 501(c)3 tax exempt charitible organization.
The PCSCA conducts bi-directional exchanges between Park City and Courchevel involving students, city employees, resort employees and residents. Through these exchanges we believe that we can develop a deeper understanding of each others cultures and practices.
One of our main exchange programs is the Park City Sister City Exchange Winter/Summer program. Our high school students have enjoyed this exchange since 1985. Our Winter/Summer website URL honors this Sister City relationship: Park City Sister City Exchange = "pcsce.com". Registered users on the website receive access to the Winter/Summer Calendar and Articles, and will receive automatic updates and reminders of Calendar events.
The town of Courchevel was developed as a ski community in 1946, and is one of 8 resorts that make up Les Trois Vallées (The Three Valleys). Les Trois Vallées is the largest ski resort in the world, and has over 26,000 skiable acres, 400 miles of trails and 160 ski lifts (including 33 gondolas and 3 cable cars). The other 7 resorts that make up Les Trois Vallées are La Tania, Méribel, Brides-Les-Bains, Les Menuires, Saint Martin de Belleville, Val Thorens, and Orelle.
Park City was established in 1884 as a mining town. It did not begin to develop it's 3 ski resorts until 1963, when a long downturn in the mining industry forced the miners to look for other income on their mining land, and they developed "Treasure Mountain." The current 3 ski resorts in Park City are Deer Valley, Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR), and The Canyons. These resorts have the potential to link to the other resorts in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons to create "One Wasatch" an area that would be similarly connected as the Trois Vallées.
The 2015 merger of Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Ski Resort created the largest ski area in the United States, with over 7300 skiable acres served by 33 lifts.
